What to Expect During a Neurofeedback Session

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive training process that helps your brain learn healthier patterns of activity. During a session, small sensors are placed on the scalp to monitor brainwave activity. The sensors only record information and do not send any electricity or stimulation into the brain.

You'll sit comfortably while watching a movie, playing a simple computer activity, or receiving visual and auditory feedback. As your brain produces targeted and efficient patterns of activity, the program provides positive feedback in real time.

Over a series of sessions, the brain gradually learns to regulate itself more effectively, which may support improvements in symptoms related to anxiety, attention difficulties, mood challenges, sleep concerns, stress, and emotional regulation.

Your First Appointment

Your initial visit may include:

• A discussion of your symptoms, goals, and health history

• An explanation of the neurofeedback process

• Development of an individualized training plan

• Recommendations regarding the expected number and frequency of sessions

During Treatment

Most neurofeedback sessions:

• Last approximately 30-60 minutes

• Are comfortable and painless

• Require no recovery time afterward

• Can be incorporated into an existing treatment plan that may include therapy or medication management
